SAN DIEGO – Authorities believe the same suspect may be responsible for a pair of home-invasion assaults on women in the Golden Hill neighborhood.

Police released a composite image of the wanted suspect

On March 10, early in the morning, the first victim woke in her residence on the 2400 block of E Street to find a man standing over her bed.  San Diego Police Lt. Chuck Kaye stated that the man grabbed her, raped her and then fled. Police received a call from the victim at around 1 a.m. and she described her assailant only as dark-skinned and short.  Kaye noted that investigators were uncertain how the man was able to get into the residence.

A second similar incident occurred in Golden Hill on April 14 when a woman was awakened in her home by a man choking her. Her residence in the 2400 block of Broadway is only a few blocks from the previous attack. This time the woman was able to fend off her attacker, who fled around 5 a.m.

The victim described her assailant as a dark-skinned man, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and 160 pounds, with pockmarked cheeks, a mustache and short hair. She also stated that he spoke with an accent. The attacker is thought to have entered the apartment though a door. Neighbors reported heard the sounds of the struggle at the time of the attack and security cameras captured footage of a light-colored, four-door sedan speeding away from the scene.

Two victims in the Golden Hill neighborhood were hit with similar attacks

Police are not certain that the attacker is the same man, but feel there are enough similarities in the case for it to be a possibility. Authorities released a sketch and a warning about the possible suspect on Tuesday. They are hoping that DNA results will determine whether or not they have a single suspect.  Anyone with information on the assaults is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
