SACRAMENTO—Three men were arrested on multiple charges after robbing a father and his teenage daughter at gunpoint during a home invasion on Monday, July 6.
The suspects—Jose Bonilla-Rodriguez, 33; William Fonolahi Wainiqolo, 22; and Jose Urena Zamora, 25—were taken into custody early Tuesday, July 7, and booked for home invasion robbery, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and resisting arrest. Zamora was also arrested on suspicion of providing false identification.
The trio targeted a home along Albatros Way in north Sacramento.
According to police reports, at 2:30 a.m., the suspects stole a man’s white Ford pickup truck and box trailer, as well as a small amount of marijuana and other items from a residence on the 2700 block of Albatross Way, in North Sacramento close to the Capital City Freeway and El Camino Avenue.
Police received a call about the home invasion and vehicle theft at around 2:45 a.m. The victim told detectives that he was confronted by three men wearing ski masks who had firearms. He was assaulted before they stole his truck and trailer.
Officers later surrounded the stolen vehicle after it was spotted by an assisting agency helicopter. Two suspects fled on foot, while one suspect was detained in another vehicle. Bonilla-Rodriguez reportedly refused to comply and continued to flee from officers, according to police officials, so a K9 officer assisted taking him into custody. Police also discovered evidence of the robbery, including a gun, in one of the suspect’s vehicle.
Jose Bonilla-Rodriguez was arrested just one month prior to this incident, on June 9, when Sacramento Police caught him in a hit and run accident. He was arrested near a home on O’Connor Way in North Sacramento after a police chase. He was charged with carrying an unlicensed, concealed and loaded firearm in the vehicle as well as resisting arrest, evasion with wanton disregard for public safety, and hit and run resulting in property damage.
