FRESNO – Women and children were inside an apartment when a suspect barricaded himself inside in an attempt to evade police arrest. Police rescued them before ending the standoff peacefully and taking the suspect into arrest.

Officers with the Fresno Police Department responded to an apartment complex on Wednesday on Delano Avenue near Robinson Avenue for reports of a stolen vehicle. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Dominique Lane, allegedly borrowed his friend’s car and never returned it.
When police knocked on the door at the suspect’s apartment, he answered and then immediately slammed the door on them. The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment. At least three women and three children were also inside the apartment.
Fresno firefighters responded to the scene and used a ladder to help bring the children and women to safety through one of the apartment windows.
Lane surrendered to police without incident a short time later. He did not have a weapon on him.
Lane has two outstanding felony warrants. He is suspected of domestic violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He will now be facing a charge of false imprisonment and possibly additional charges.
Police cleared the scene but were called back around an hour later after an argument at the apartment complex led to threats of violence. It’s not clear whether the argument was related to the earlier standoff or if any further arrests were made.
