He smashed the front window
GILROY—Authorities with the Gilroy Police Department arrested 24-year-old Oakland resident Semaj Crump after he was caught in the act of exiting a business that had shattered glass door.

At 3:40 a.m. on Monday April 1, while responding to a burglary alarm at ‘The Super Taqueria’ at 401 East Tenth Street an arriving officer observed Crump exited the business through a shattered glass door.
“He could have used a tool to smash the door or physical force.” Gilroy Police Sergeant Pedro Espinoza said, “But it is most likely that he used a tool because he did not suffer any injures.”
Crump fled the scene as soon as he spotted the officers leaving behind a bag that contained burglary tools. Crump ran eastbound from Tenth Street towards highway 101 but officers were able to apprehend him about a quarter mile away after the brief foot chase and placed him under arrest.
Officers were able to determine that Crump left the scene prior to being able to remove any items from the business. A suspicious older vehicle, an older model red over black GMC jimmy, was seen in the area just prior to the incident. The vehicle is of interested at this time.
“We believe that the GMC Jimmy could have been his get-a-way driver.” Sergeant Espinoza added, “Because when we arrived at the scene it took off.”
