Seen dumping items into trash can.

If you plan a burglary, make sure it does not include dumping the stolen items in a trash receptacle, and even if it does, you might not want to be seen by some friendly neighbors.

These tips would not be coming from Randall Lee Markwith, a 42-year-old Redding resident who did exactly the opposite when he conducted a burglary in one of the Redding neighborhoods. According to the police reports, Markwith was arrested on Thursday, March 28, after he burglarized a home on 1000 block of Denton Way. He would not be so easily found, as he was not found at the crime scene when the police arrived. However, a neighbor of the victim said they saw the burglar dumping some of the stolen items into a trash receptacle.

The burglary occurred at one of the homes on this street

After hearing such news, the officers conducted an area check and found Markwith behind a home on a nearby street. The unlucky burglar dropped his backpack with all of the newly attained items and fled the scene. He did not escape far though, as two Redding Police K-9s assisted the officers in the search.

Markwith was finally detained with the help of a K-9 in the 1100 block of Ledell Drive. He was also found in possession of some items from a burglary on Ricardo Avenue which occurred earlier that week. Markwith was treated for his injuries from a struggle with a K-9 before being transported to the Shasta County Jail where he was booked for residential burglary, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.
