A 13-year-old Concord boy was taken to a hospital Thursday morning after being shot at and then stabbed by two suspects who attacked him for denying he was in a gang, according to police.

At about 10 p.m. Wednesday night, officers responded to the intersection of Grant Street near Knoll Drive for a report of a stabbing, according to police. Officers found the victim on the ground with several stab wounds and took him to a hospital, where he was in stable condition as of Thursday morning.

According to police, the boy was walking with a friend on Grant Street when a vehicle pulled in front of them and two people got out. They then approached the victim and asked him if he was in a gang. When the boy replied he was not in a gang, one of the suspects fired a handgun at him several times. Neither the victim nor his friend, however, were hit by the gunfire.

One of the suspects then attacked the victim with a knife, stabbing an undisclosed number of times in the torso. The suspects then got back into their vehicle and drove off.

A description of the suspects or the vehicle they drove in were not immediately available. Police are investigating if the attack is related to other recent aggravated assaults.
