CHICO – On Sunday night at 10:30 Chico police officer Regan Ortega was conducting a routine patrol. Upon approaching the Lowe’s Home Improvement store, she noticed that the fence surrounding the garden department had been cut.
Ortega called for assistance and officer Rich Hartman and his K-9 partner Luna arrived. They made a call for anyone to come out before the canine officer would be released. 40-year-old Russell Castor came out from under a semi-truck near the loading dock.
He was taken into custody and denied knowing of anyone else being in the store. No one else responded to further warnings and Luna was released onto the premises. Luna located Russell Castor’s brother, 34-year-old Bryan Castor, who refused to comply with the officers commands and was apprehended by Luna.
Further investigation revealed that the Castor brothers were in the process of burglarizing Lowe’s when the officers arrived. Bryan Castor was treated for the dog bites he received from Luna. The brothers were booked into Butte County Jail on charges of burglary as well as other charges.
