BIG BEAR CITY – San Bernardino County deputies tracked down a kidnapping suspect, saving a 29-year-old woman in a wild and screaming incident that took place on Thursday afternoon.

Zachary David Crawford, 22, of Acton was taken into custody when deputies were able to locate him in a forest area. Deputies responded to the 300 block of South Sites Way just before 5 p.m. Witnesses and family members told deputies that the female victim, who was Crawford’s ex-girlfriend, was taken against her will. Reports said that Crawford pulled the unidentified woman into his Beige Chevrolet Suburban and drove away from the scene at a high rate of speed.

When she tried to escape, Crawford reportedly struck her multiple times, according to reports. Witnesses told deputies that she was still hanging out of an open passenger door as the Suburban sped away on South Sites Way. The victim is a resident of Big Bear City, a mountain resort in San Bernardino County.
Deputies canvassed the area and eventually heard a female screaming for help in a forest area west of Sugarloaf. Deputies located the victim and Crawford in the Suburban.

Deputies said Crawford tried to drive the car onto the side of small dirt road but the Suburban became disabled. The victim was apparently unharmed.
Crawford, taken to Big Bear Jail, was arrested without incident, said deputies, charged with kidnapping, making criminal threats and domestic violence. Later, he was taken to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on $250,000 bail.
He is schedule to appear in court on Monday.
