The Paso Robles Police have a man in custody who is allegedly responsible for burning a live steer in October.

According to police, investigators, after investigating for several months, they obtained an arrest warrant for a subject’s arrest.

The arrest warrant was served last Friday on Garrett Evan Kaplan, 23 at a residence on the 1100 block of Dorothy St. around 6 p.m.

Kaplan was arrested without incident and he was charged with one felony count of animal cruelty.

Kaplan was transported and booked at San Luis Obispo County Jail.

It was on October 26 of last year when a student at the high school and member of the National FFA Organization reported finding his steer burned.

The steer was only five-months-old when the incident occurred . The steer although burned, did survive.

It is unknown why Kaplan started the fire at the FFA barns or if he knew the owner of the steer personally.
