A Ceres couple has been arrested for selling fake Disneyland tickets on Craigslist.
Jessica Melendez, 33, and Israel Vasquez, 32, allegedly purchased real tickets from AAA, but then made photocopies and sold them online. The first user of the imprinted barcodes would have been admitted, but all subsequent copies were rejected as duplicates or previously used tickets.
Several people purchased the fakes and made the trek to southern California, only to be turned away at the Disneyland gate. Some of the families had enough money to pay for admission anyway, but others turned around and went home, said police.
After much anticipation, victims were either turned away or opened their wallets at Disneyland’s main gate.
The investigation began in October when a victim who bought four of the fake tickets called police. Authorities searched the couples’ home on Wednesday and found over a dozen tickets, some of which had been duplicated.
