COVELO – Daniel Lucas Bowes had the recent misfortune of attempting to rob a convenience store, and get away with it, in a small community where he was already well known.  It all began at 6:30 am when someone, wearing a hooded black jacket  and a bandana on his face, displayed a sawed-off shotgun and demanded money at the Hidden Oaks convenience store.

The suspect grabbed money from the counter-top and fled.  Sheriff’s deputies responded and reviewed surveillance video of the robbery.  Despite covering his face, an employee of the Round Valley Tribe noticed the suspect’s distinct walk and identified Bowes as a possible suspect.

Authorities then searched Bowes’ residence and discovered him in a closet, hiding under a pile of clothes.  They also discovered a 20-gauge sawed-off shotgun at the residence hidden between a mattress and box spring.

Bowes was arrested for a parole warrant, as well as armed robbery, possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a prohibited weapon and being armed in the commission of a felony.  He is being held on a no bail status.
