Hit-and-run Motorist Apprehended

SANTA MARIA – At 8 a.m. Tuesday, a female driving a white 1992 Ford Aerostar van struck a young woman who was pushing her 2-year-old daughter in a stroller and fled the scene.

The victims were crossing the street using a crosswalk at Morrison and Depot streets.

They suffered minor injuries and were treated and released from Marian Medical Center, according to a press release issued by Santa Maria Police Department.

A witness followed the hit-and-run suspect, Guadalupe Espitia-Hernandez, 32, of Santa Maria, and helped police officers find her shortly after the incident. Police apprehended Espitia-Hernandez and took her into custody in the 700 block of El Camino Real, about 10 miles away from the accident scene. She was booked on two felony counts of hit and run and one misdemeanor count of driving without a license.

The incident is still under investigation.
