SANTA MARIA - A man taking out his trash Thursday afternoon was attacked and stabbed at least one time in what police are investigating as an attempted robbery.
Officers were called to the alleyway in the 500 block of West Orange just before 4 p.m. on Jan. 31 for a report of an alleged stabbing that had just occurred and found a male in his 50s, who was suffering from a stab wound to his upper torso, according to the Police Department.
The unidentified victim, whose name police aren’t releasing, was transported to Marian Medical Center, where he was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the alleged stabbing.
During their investigation of the incident, officers identified Santa Maria resident Joseph Moreno, 42, as the alleged suspect in the stabbing and attempted robbery. Moreno was located and arrested a short time later, police said.
Moreno was booked at Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery and is being held at the jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
