SAN JOSE – The San Jose Police department is reporting their 34th homicide of the year with the capture of 43-year-old Oscar Ayala. Ayala was arrested September 4 in connection with the death of a woman found in a mini-van parked in front of a school located near the 1700 block of San Antonio Street in East San Jose on September 3.

According to Sgt. Heather Randol with the San Jose Police Dept, “Upon arrival, patrol officers located the victim, later identified as 49-year-old Reina Figueroa, inside a vehicle.” Because of the circumstances in which the body was found, SJPD Homicide Investigators reported the death as suspicious, but had not identified the woman as a homicide victim. Randol said, “During the ensuing investigation, San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified Oscar Ayala as the person responsible for Figueroa’s murder.”

Police believe Ayala was near the area during the Labor Day weekend, and are still investigating the cause of death. “Detectives believe residents may have seen Ayala on foot in and around the area of San Antonio Street and Jackson Avenue over the Labor Day weekend,” Randol said.

San Jose Police also arrested Caris Warren on Aug 29, 2013 for the death of a San Jose Nursing student, 19-year-old Kimberly Chico.

“This was a very sad case of a victim in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Homicide Unit Commander Michael Kihmm. Chico was shot dead from a stray bullet being fired out into the street by several gang members. Kimberly Chico was shot in the area of 3rd Street and E. San Salvador Street in Downtown San Jose.

Caris Warren is the third arrest in the death of Kimberly Chico

Two other suspects have also been arrested in this case. 23-year-old Johnny Lazano and 23-year-old Jessie Grant, where arrested earlier in August of 2013. According to San Jose Police, “During the ensuing investigation, San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified Johnny Lozano, Caris Warren and Jessie Grant as participants in the shooting.”
