ROSAMOND — A 33-year-old man was shot by deputies during a standoff on Tuesday afternoon in an area 10 miles northwest of the city of Rosamond in Kern County.

Luis Macias was booked upon his release from the hospital on three counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a firearm on a peace officer, exhibiting a firearm at an officer, resisting arrest and a felony warrant.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement stating that the incident began at around 3:30 p.m. on July 28, when deputies searching for a suspect with an outstanding felony warrant obtained information that the suspect, later identified as Macias, was hiding inside a trailer in the 10000 block of Hamilton Road just outside the Rosamond city limits.

“Deputies located the trailer and while approaching it, were confronted by the suspect, who had broken out a window and brandished a handgun at them,” said KCSO Public Information Officer Ray Pruitt. “A few minutes later, the suspect again waved the handgun at deputies through an open door, firing one round in their direction.”

Two deputies returned fire, striking Macias at least one time, forcing him to retreat back inside the trailer. After several failed attempts to contact Macias, the Bakersfield Police Department SWAT team was contacted. But before they could arrive, Macias surrendered without further incident.

In a search of the trailer, deputies found the firearm Macias had used to shoot at officers, which had been previously reported stolen to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Macias was transported to an area hospital with major, but non-life threatening injuries. The two deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative leave pending a review of the shooting incident.

SACRAMENTO—A local mother faces a preliminary hearing in August in Sacramento Superior Court after allegedly setting her seven-year-old daughter on fire in April at their El Camino Avenue home.

The child survived, but Porche Latrice Wright, 27, was arrested and charged on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated mayhem, connected to the incident at her duplex on the 600 block of El Camino Avenue at Cantalier on Saturday, April 4.

On Wednesday morning, July 30, Judge Ben Davidian ordered Wright to appear for an August 20 preliminary hearing. She will remain at Sacramento County jail without bail until that date.

At the time of Wright’s arrest in April, police said her daughter’s injuries were consistent with being sprayed with a flammable liquid, and then set alight. A family friend also told authorities they saw burn marks on the child.

“She put gas on her and put a match on her,” said neighbor Mike Davis. Added Frank Taylor, another neighbor, “She was burned so bad—face and everything—it was really severe.”

Wright has a criminal past dating back to 2007. She’s been charged with prostitution, domestic violence and disorderly conduct. According to Sacramento County jail information, she has two previous domestic violence allegations of corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant from 2014.

Records also show she completed a treatment program for batterers to settle the 2014 domestic violence charge. She had been scheduled to appear in court to show a judge she completed the program. That court date was two days after she was arrested in the April 4 case.

Roseville Police have arrested a 17-year old male in connection with a robbery which occurred in a Target store parking lot last Thursday.

According to Roseville Police, a woman was approached by two male subjects in the parking lot of the Target store on Fairway Drive in Roseville, at about 4:50 pm on July 23. The young men appeared to have handguns and demanded the woman’s wallet. The woman refused, and was hit and knocked to the ground by the suspects. But she was able to fight both assailants off, and they ran away without taking anything. Although the woman had some scratches, she was not seriously injured in the scuffle and declined medical help.

The two were spotted leaving the parking lot in a silver sedan along with three women. Roseville Police responded and started an investigation. On July 29, the 17-year old male was arrested in South Sacramento on suspicion of robbery. Detectives have identified the three women who were with the men during the robbery. Though they were not arrested, the District Attorney’s Office is considering charging the women with conspiracy. A second male juvenile is believed to be involved in the incident, and Roseville Detectives are continuing their investigation to locate and arrest the suspect.

Roseville Police are not sure if the incident at the Target store is connected to an earlier incident which occurred at about 3:30 in the Winco parking lot, which is on the next block southeast of Target. A woman contacted Roseville Police after three people approached her in the parking lot and offered to help her with her groceries. The woman declined, and nothing was stolen, but she considered their behavior odd and contacted Roseville Police.

SAN FRANCISCO — A man who was wanted in connection with the attempted murder of a 97-year-old Sonoma County resident died Thursday morning after a brawl with San Francisco police officers, authorities said. The man has been identified as Filimoni R. Raiyawa, 57, of Sonoma County. His victim, Solomon Cohen later died in the hospital.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. police responded to a car accident on Francisco and Richardson Streets. According to police, a minivan rear-ended a BMW that was stopped at a red light. The force of the collision sent both cars through the intersection and into several parked cars. The driver of the BMW approached the minivan, attempting to check on the other driver. According to police, however, the driver of the minivan, a six foot, 265 pound man–later identified as Raiyawa–got out of the minivan and began speaking incoherently, scaring the owner of the BMW. As the driver of the BMW called police, Raiyawa began to walk away.

Officers then located Raiyawa at Pierce and Lombard Streets, and attempted to detain him. But when one of the officers approached, Raiyawa punched her numerous times on the head and upper body, police said. Police also said that Raiyawa threw another officer to the ground when she tried to control him. “The confrontation between the suspect and officers was so violent that it knocked over a section of cyclone construction fencing surrounding a dirt lot,” the San Francisco Police Department stated in a press release.

According to witness accounts reported by the San Francisco Examiner, police then started “beating on” and “whacking the [deleted] out of” Raiyawa. One witness, Willie Gunnari, who lives at Pierce and Lombard Street, told the Examiner that he saw officers telling the Raiyawa to get on the ground, but that he wasn’t listening. Gunnari also told the Examiner that he heard Raiyawa tell police to stop.

Raiyawa tried to get into this IHOP to escape police, but was prevented from entering.

Raiyawa tried to get into this IHOP to escape police, but was prevented from entering.

Somehow Raiyawa broke free from the scrum and tried to get into an I-HOP further east on the 2000 block of Lombard Street, police said, but the manager of the pancake house wouldn’t let Raiyawa in. Officers eventually caught up to Raiwaya in front of a nearby hotel and, using batons, took him to the ground. Once Raiyawa was handcuffed, and as an ambulance was in transit, Raiwaya had a “medical emergency.” Despite attempts by officers and paramedics to revive Raiyawa, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

San Francisco police later learned that Raiyawa was wanted in Sonoma County in connection with the “brutal bludgeoning” of a 97-year-old Solomon Cohen at his home near Occidental. Cohen died on Wednesday at 9:16 p.m., according to the Press Democrat. Raiyawa lived with Cohen as a caretaker, and reportedly ate breakfast with Cohen each morning for the past 8 years. According to police, Raiyawa fled the crime scene in the same blue Honda Odyssey he crashed before he died in his confrontation with the police.

An investigation into the in-custody death of Raiyawa is ongoing, police said.

A San Jose man faces charges that he kidnapped and violently attacked at least two women with a knife in one night. 26-year-old Edwin Muncada is accused of picking up women who were engaged in prostitution, and then assaulting them before they could escape. Showing no fear of being caught after the horrific events, police arrested him while he was still driving in the area, covered in his victims’ blood.

Muncada was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of attempted kidnapping, and two counts of assault with intent to rape. If convicted, he faces life in prison. He is expected to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. at the Hall of Justice in San Jose on August 5 in Dept 34.

“We are thankful for the lightning quick reaction of the San Jose police to this rampage,” prosecutor Carlos Vega said. “This arrest may very well have prevented further bloodshed.” Without these women being able to trust police officers, the suspect may have continued to hurt others. Vega said, “Law enforcement is looking for unidentified victims in this case.”

Muncada's assaults occurred in the area around Alma Road and Monterey Highway in San Jose.

Muncada’s assaults occurred in the area around Alma Road and Monterey Highway in San Jose.

It was after midnight on Saturday, July 25, when the suspect Muncada picked up a female prostitute who had agreed to accept money for sex. After she entered the passenger side of his car, he held a knife against her throat. He then wrapped her head with duct tape, and tried to quickly drive away. But the victim leaped from the moving vehicle, believing that the driver would kill her if she did not escape. Once she was free, she was able to flag down a police sergeant to report what had just happened.

Soon after the first victim had escaped, Muncada picked up his second victim. She entered the vehicle after he had agreed to pay for sex. This time he began to punch, bite and stab the female victim. She violently struggled with the defendant, and was also able to escape from his car.

An Uber driver who watched the women jump from the car helped the victim call police for help. Around the same time another witness saw a woman who’d apparently been stabbed by the same suspect in the general area of the first attack. Police are trying to contact this third victim, who has not yet been identified. At 2 a.m., police were successfully able to pull over the suspect near where he had attacked his victims.

During the initial search of the suspect’s vehicle, police found blood, a package of steel kitchen knives, one of the victim’s hair weaves, duct tape with blood on it, and a black mask.

Anyone with information about unreported attacks by this defendant can contact detective Brandon Scholten at (408) 277-4102.

BONITA- San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 44-year-old man as a suspect in several recent arson brush fires in Bonita. Bonita is a small town just inland from Chula Vista, south of San Diego.

Edwin Fisk was arrested in Bonita on Wednesday, July 29 by sheriff’s deputies from the Imperial Beach station and the Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit. He is scheduled to be arraigned the afternoon of July 31 at the South Bay Courthouse.

HIGHLAND – Two men were arrested by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies after a shooting in which a stray shot killed a four-year-old boy on Wednesday night.

Maurice Kelley, 25, of Fontana, and Darron Daniels, 20, of Highland, are being held on $1 million bail after being arrested. Investigators are saying that shots fired resulted in one striking a four-year-old, Daniel Munoz.

Shots were heard at 8:28 p.m. on Wednesday, and authorities responded to the 7400 block of McKinley Street. They discovered that the toddler had been struck, resulting in him being transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The boy had been playing in front of his home when the shots were fired.

Initial reports to authorities identified a person of interest – a Hispanic male in his early 20s with an accompanying description. After investigation, detectives served search warrants and conducted numerous witness interviews that eventually led them to Daniels and Kelly some 24 hours after the shooting.

Police said the two engaged in an argument with people in a white 1990s Toyota Camry, according to reports. Lead detectives Justin Long and Sgt. Trevis Newport, who have not yet connected the shooting as gang-related, believe those men were the intended shooting victims.

When a stray shot hit Munoz, family members frantically tried to save the child until medical assistance could arrive.

Daniels was arrested for one count of murder and Kelley was also charged with murder as well as two counts of attempted murder.

Both men, booked at Central Detention Center in San Bernardino, will likely appear in court early next week. Reports stated that Munoz’s mom and dad were en route to pick up their son after spending a day at Knott’s Berry Farm.

RIVERSIDE – A Cathedral City man who was arrested for the abduction of a fellow UCR student last year will stand trial.

On June 8, 2014, a female victim reported to the Riverside Police that she had been abducted and held against her will. The abduction reportedly occurred around 4 p.m. on June 8 at the University Towers parking garage in the 3500 block of Iowa Avenue, near the University of California, Riverside.

The student reported that she was grabbed while in the parking garage by a man who forced her into his vehicle and then bound her. She was placed in the backseat and driven around the area.

Keeping her cool, the woman was able to talk her abductor into returning her to garage and releasing her. The victim was injured, but not sexually assaulted according to the police.

“She was able to humanize herself to the suspect and basically talk him down from following through with whatever his plan was for her that day,” said Riverside police Detective Rick Wheeler.

Using forensic evidence recovered from the scene and a description of the attacker and his vehicle, Donald Earl Rosenbek, Jr. was identified as the assailant. The victim confirmed his identity in a photo lineup. Rosenbek, a former UCR student, was a bartender with a prior record, including a misdemeanor in 2006 for domestic violence and a 2005 DUI arrest.

Rosenbek was arrested in October 2014 at a residence in Cathedral City and charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, and assault by means of force. He remains in custody at the Southwest Detention Center in French Valley in lieu of posting $1 million bail, according to jail records.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge David A. Gunn ruled Wednesday, July 29, there was sufficient evidence to hold Donald Earl Rosenbek Jr. for trial after hearing testimony from two Riverside police detectives during a preliminary hearing.

Suspect Will Be Tried As An Adult

SANTA CRUZ—The Santa Cruz Police Department arrested 15-year-old Adrian Jerry Gonzales in the homicide investigation into the death of 8-year-old juvenile Madyson Middleton who was reported missing on Sunday evening at the Tannery Arts Center apartment complex on River Street where she lived.

Santa Cruz Police found Madyson’s body in a large dumpster-size recycle bin on the ground floor of the apartment complex. Police stated that the suspect, Adrian Gonzales, was actually standing near the dumpsters when they found her body.  It seemed that Gonzales went through some great lengths to conceal Madyson’s body.

Police theorized that the two were friendly acquaintances due to the fact that they lived in the same apartment complex. Evidence suggests that Madyson was lured into Gonzalez’s family apartment and went willingly. It appears that Gonzales killed Madyson in the apartment, and eventually carried her body downstairs to the dumpster.

There is also evidence that suggest that Madyson was killed prior to the initial call to police to report her missing. Police took Gonzales into custody after finding her body, and interviewed him into the early morning hours.

“Our Detectives have located evidence that links Gonzales to this horrific crime” Santa Cruz Police Chief Kevin Vogel said. “Evidence includes Madyson’s belongings in the apartment, witness statements, and video evidence.”

Police have determined that Gonzales acted alone, and he is in custody at the Santa Cruz County Juvenile Detention Center. They are waiting autopsy results, and the Santa Cruz District Attorney’s office has determined that he will be tried as an adult. District Attorney spokesman Paul Mangasarian has said that his formal arraignment has been postponed until September to allow time for the defense to prepare their case.

BIG BEAR – A 20-year-old man accused of luring a 16-year-old girl to meet him for sex was arrested on Thursday morning. Robert Louis Becker, who lives on the 5000 block of Quail Run in Riverside, was arrested on charges of possession of child pornography among other crimes, ending a stretch of over two months during which the man stalked the teen through the internet. Big Bear, located in the San Bernardino mountains, is about 90 minutes from Riverside.

The girl, who lives in the Big Bear community of Sugarloaf, was asked by the suspect to provide nude photos of herself, according to police reports from an investigation that began on July 8. The girl’s mother had told police her daughter had been solicited into a relationship.

A relationship had started two months earlier, said police, involving a man using the name “Lex Adams”. In his internet profile, it was determined that Becker was using a generic photo of a male model.

The unidentified victim meanwhile, had been seduced into sending the man sexually explicit photos of herself, and was eventually persuaded to meet the man for sex, according to reports. Becker also convinced the teen to divulge her social media account information. Police said he was able to use the victim’s account information to pose on-line as the teen, sending requests to her friends for additional sexually explicit videos and photos.

Upon being served with a search warrant at his Riverside residence, Becker was found to be in possession of child pornography, said police.

Becker is scheduled for arraignment on Monday in San Bernardino Superior Court, facing charges of possession of child pornography and trying to entice a minor into sex acts. He is being held currently on $250,000.

SANTA ROSA – The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) issued a Community Bulletin on Friday, July 31, after a shooting in Bodega Bay. At approximately 9 am, SCSO deputies responded to 125 Taylor Street on the report of shots fired. Deputies found an unconscious woman on the street who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was brought to a safe location for medical treatment and was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital with what was described as serious injuries.

It began when three females from a nearby county were sleeping in the residence when an intruder awakened them. The man was armed with a gun and he held all three females captive. The intruder was an ex-boyfriend of one of the victims, and was also a restrained party on a domestic violence restraining order against seeing her.

While the females were being held captive, a fight started over the firearm, which allowed them to flee the residence on foot. As they were fleeing one of them was shot multiple times in the street fronting the house, while the other two were able to run to safety. A witness reported hearing multiple gunshots and also heard another shot from inside of the residence.

The SCSO Special Operations Unit also responded to the scene and set up a perimeter around the residence. After multiple attempts to make contact with the suspect were unsuccessful, members of the SWAT team were able to look into the residence and see that the suspect was sitting on a couch suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The SWAT team entered the residence and confirmed that the suspect was deceased. A firearm, likely a shotgun, was recovered in close proximity to the suspect’s body.

The names of the victim’s will not be released as the incident involved domestic violence and the victims have requested confidentiality. The suspect’s identity will not be released until notification is made to next of kin.

WILDOMAR – While investigating a string of robberies, Lake Elsinore police discovered a honey oil lab.

Authorities, believing that a series of robberies that occurred throughout July were related, began a search for a single suspect. The three burglaries occurred at the Storm Stadium and the Green Springs Golf Course in the city of Lake Elsinore.

According to a press release from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, the total damage to The Diamond, home of the minor-league Lake Elsinore Storm baseball team was approximately $5,000, and the value of stolen property was $500.

On Wednesday, July 22, the Green Springs Golf Course was burglarized. The thief made off with three golf carts and two radios. The total value of the property stolen in that incident was estimated to be $15,000. Authorities were ultimately able to recover the golf carts, which were badly damaged. However, the radios, which were valued at $1200 each, are still missing.

Lake Elsinore Police Theft Suppression Team searched the home of Shane Michael Lehr, a 19-year-old Wildomar resident on July 30, believing him to be responsible for the July crimes. Wildomar is just south of the city of Lake Elsinore. While searching Lehr’s home, the investigator discovered a honey oil lab.

Lehr was arrested for the burglaries, vandalism, and possession of concentrated cannabis. He was booked at Southwest Detention Center and remained there Friday in lieu of $50,000 bail. Records show that Lehr had been arrested earlier this year for possession of a stolen vehicle, and evading officers with wanton disregard for public safety. In that incident, Lehr was spotted by Lake Elsinore police in a stolen Mini Cooper and failed to pull over. After a brief chase, Lehr lost control of the car at Stoneman Street. He was arrested at 2 am on Friday, March 7.

Creepy and dangerous sex offender arrested

James G. Beldin, a registered sex offender, reportedly committed at least two “creepy” acts that got him put behind bars once again.

On Friday, July 31, Beldin was in a store in the shopping center at 1600 Willow Pass Road at about a quarter to four pm. He was wearing his court mandated ankle monitor for his past conviction of committing lewd and lascivious acts. Scissors in hand, he approached a woman from behind, and cut off a lock of her hair. As she turned to see what had happened, he drew the hair to his nose and smelled it. As she gazed in disbelief, Beldin turned and ran off. Knowing he was in trouble again, he cut off his ankle monitor to disappear from his parole officer.

The alarm was raised and information went out identifying Beldin as a wanted man for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery. The 52-year-old suspect was described as 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, short brown hair and hazel eyes. His vehicle, a gold 1991 Honda Accord was broadcast, and his status as a wanted parolee and registered sex offender was noted, and he was to be considered potentially armed and dangerous.

This incident wasn’t his only recent trouble with the law. Just a month prior, on June 27, he was arrested by Concord Police at the JCPenney Store at the Sun Valley Mall. He was charged with battery on an officer, but no further details were released on that incident.

Beldin turned up at this shopping center, up to no good again.

Beldin turned up at this shopping center, up to no good again.

His photo, a distinctive face looking a little like actor Ed Harris, was broadcast over local news and social media. By Sunday, he had fled to Walnut Creek, a town a few miles south of Concord. While at the San Miguel Shopping Center, at the corner of Newell and Broadway, he approached a female and tried to take a photo up her skirt. As she reacted to his assault, at 1:22 that afternoon one of the people present recognized him, and called Walnut Creek police.

Officers responded to the scene, and found his Honda parked in the parking lot. He himself was not far away – they located him at the nearby intersection and, after a brief foot chase, took him into custody. He was arrested on multiple charges and booked into the Contra Costa County Jail, with a no-bail parole hold.

Anyone with further information about Beldin, or who may have witnessed him committing any further acts outside the spirit of his parole terms, may contact Concord PD Detective Josh Graham at 925-603-5864, or the Concord PD Tip Line at 925-603-5836.

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco police are looking for a woman who allegedly stole $35,000 worth of valuables from an apartment she rented through AirBnB, the online home rental website that has become popular among residents and vacationers in major cities.

Earlier this year in April, a resident rented out her Outer Sunset home to a customer through the online rental site. The customer, now a prime suspect, has been identified as Jana Dominguez, 27, of Richmond, Calif.

As a renter Dominguez had access to most of the apartment, except for an office and closet in which the formal resident stored valuables. During her stay, Dominguez broke into the locked rooms and stole the merchandise, according to police. they didn’t specify what was taken.

Surveillance footage provided to police by the victim shows Dominguez speaking to the owner of the store below the apartment she later ransacked. It also shows the suspect snooping around the office from which she stole.

Dominguez has a felony warrant for second degree burglary and falsely impersonating another person. She had been arrested a week ago Sunday, July 26 in Rohnert Park for possession of narcotics and paraphernalia.

SANTA ROSA – It was Saturday afternoon, August 1, and Steven Silva had apparently already been drinking. He had stopped his car in an area that would normally have been quite busy on a weekday, but was probably fairly quiet on a Saturday afternoon. But he was seen slumped over the steering wheel of his Toyota Camry, while stopped at the Stony Point Office Park, at Stony Point Road and West 9th Street.

A report was called in, and units from the Santa Rosa Fire Department and Paramedics responded to the area. Upon arrival they found Silva as described, and when they contacted him, he appeared to be intoxicated. But when they addressed him, he woke up and exited the car.

Silva was parked in this area when he was reported to be passed out in his car.

Silva was parked in this area when he was reported to be passed out in his car.

Silva is listed as a transient in the Santa Rosa area, though records show that he once lived at an apartment in the Roseland area of southwest Santa Rosa. Available arrest records show that in 2009 his license had already been suspended for a past DUI, when he was arrested for hit-and-run while intoxicated. In February of 2011 he was again charged with a DUI and driving on a DUI-suspended license. He was charged with a parole violation and resisting arrest in August of that year, but was out on AB109 Post-Release Community Supervision in 2012.

Earlier this year, on January 18, he was once again charged with DUI and driving on a suspended license when he was arrested by Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies in Bodega Bay, out on Bodega Head, the marine preserve area across the bay from the town. He was charged with another probation violation as well.

So when he was roused outside the office park on Saturday, he may have had all his belongings with him in the car, but he definitely had his dog, a pit-bull terrier, to accompany him. When Silva got out of the car, according to Santa Rosa police, he took the dog and began to walk away while the paramedics and fire personnel were trying to check on his welfare. As Silva grew more uncooperative, they contacted Santa Rosa police for assistance.

Officers were soon there and asked Silva to sit down while they reviewed the incident, but he was not in any mood to go along with them either. They then tried to handcuff him to detain him for public intoxication, but the dog became aggressive, and went after the paramedics and fire personnel. An officer used pepper spray on the dog, who then backed off, but Silva continued to struggle with them, kicking and spitting on the officers while they managed to get him face down on the ground and cuff him. He continued kicking and spitting, and leg restraints were finally used to get him under control.

Silva was booked into Sonoma County jail on familiar charges of felony DUI, resisting arrest, and violating his probation. They dog was taken by Animal Control until a friend or family member could take care of it. Anyone with additional information about Silva or this incident is encouraged to call Sergeant Philip at 707-543-4016.

SAN BERNARDINO – More arrests are expected soon, after eleven alleged gang members were taken into custody during a sweep made last month.

A multiple agency investigation resulted in the arrest of members of the so-called “Noe Luv Gangster Crips” in San Bernardino, along with neighboring cities Rialto and Fontana, on Thursday, July 23.

Dubbed a criminal street gang conspiracy, the four-month investigation included members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Gang Intelligence Team and an FBI Gang Task Force, among others, that have been investigating illicit activities of the Noe Luv Gangster Crips.

Sgt. Robert Kelly said, “For the past several years, members and associates of this particular gang have been known for their violent nature towards gang members from other criminal street gangs.” Kelly said the gangs were based around the Inland Empire, centered mostly in the San Bernardino area.

Based on several gang-related shootings that have occurred at various locations throughout San Bernardino County, he said, “some [are shootings] in which innocent civilians also have been victimized.” Surveillance operations helped gather evidence to establish the gang’s criminal conduct, said Kelly.

Arrested were Rahshun Turner, 30, of Rialto; Dewitt Johnson, 55; Fox Burroughs, 30, of Rialto; Mark Tibbs, 33, of Rialto; and San Bernardino residents Lancaster Alexander, 21, Sobriety Jackson, 20, Sharhonda Jackson, 24, Thomonte Rander, 29, Markyse Tuggle, 23, Liza Flores, 27, and David Blakely, 30.

Members of the gang have appeared in court this week, according to officials.

On Thursday, July 23, investigators, deputies and officers from the county sheriff’s office, San Bernardino Police, county probation, California Highway Patrol, Rialto Police and the FBI served 10 search warrants at various locations throughout the county. Kelly said 22 firearms were confiscated, along with six ounces of cocaine, while the 11 alleged gang members were taken into custody. Charges include criminal street gang conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, assault, human trafficking/pimping, prostitution, plus additional weapons and narcotics violations.

Kelly said the investigation served to represent law enforcement cooperation within the county, “plus their commitment to the relentless pursuit of those who engage in criminal street gang activities.” More warrants could be served in the future while investigations continue, he said.

The Fairfield Police department received a call on Tuesday, August 4, at 9:00 am from an employee at the Fairfield Community Center, according to a press release. The employee was concerned because the preschool classes were about to start and he had discovered a naked man in a bathroom stall.

Fairfield Police Officers responded to the community center, located at 1000 Kentucky Street, just around the corner from the Police Department, and found Randy Smith, a 41 year old Fairfield resident.  During the investigation, the officers learned that Smith had been released from prison at the end of July, and was supposed to register as a sex offender with the City of Fairfield within the week. Smith was arrested for a parole violation and booked into Solano County Jail.

According to the Megan’s Law website (www.meganslaw.ca.gov) Randy Smith was convicted of Offense Code 289(a)(1): Sexual Penetration with Foreign Object by Force/Fear. The year of the conviction, as well as the year of his release from prison, are omitted from his profile, however, his last known address is listed as Fairfield, 94533.

After speaking with employees at the Community Center, and the Preschool Administrator, Fairfield Police determined that it does not appear that any children came into to contact with Mr. Smith. Per the Fairfield Community Center’s Preschool Class Schedule, most children’s classes do not begin until 9:00 am or later.  Luckily, the Community Center employee happened to find Mr. Smith prior to children arriving.

The Fairfield Police commended the Community Center employee in yesterday’s press release by stating that the employee, “paid attention to his instinct and immediately contacted the Fairfield Police Department. This allowed us to make contact with, and remove a subject who potentially could have had an adverse effect on the young children in the facility.” The statement continues to encourage community members to pay attention to their surroundings and to have the willingness to report suspicious activity.

The Fairfield Police Department’s press release concludes that “it is with your help that we continue to make Fairfield a safer and a great place to raise your families.”
