The San Luis Obispo Police have a man in custody who is allegedly responsible for a residential burglary committed last month.

According to SLOPD, the suspect, Derek Roden, 29 of Santa Maria, allegedly broke into a home in the 900 block of Peach Street, then a home on the 100 block of Verde Drive on Saturday, April 18 between the hours of 2:30 and 3:30 a.m.

Police say a taxi driver who had just dropped off an intoxicated female at the Peach Street residence saw a male subject follow her inside her home.

The driver told police that after the door closed behind them, he heard the female begin screaming. The taxi driver told police he ran to the door and began pounding on it until the door opened. The driver said he was face-to-face with Roden, who got away before officers arrived.

According to SLOPD, a resident on the 100 block of Verde found a man matching Roden’s description inside his residence. The suspect ran out of that home and drove away in a light-colored sedan. In both cases, the subject had similar clothing and physical descriptions.

The suspect was described as a white male wearing a baseball-style hat with CHP logo. The suspect was also described by one witness as possibly being mute.

Based on the suspect’s physical description, clothing, behavior, characteristics and prior police contacts, an alert SLOPD officer recognized the suspect to be Roden. He was later positively identified by one of the victims. An arrest warrant was issued for the burglaries.

Roden was arrested on Wednesday, May 13 by a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputy at 175 Broadway in Orcutt, a town just south of Santa Maria. San Luis Obispo Police detectives drove to Orcutt and took custody of Roden. Detectives described Roden as uncooperative and appearing to be unable or unwilling to speak or communicate with them in any manner.

After claiming a medical issue, Roden was transported to a local hospital where he received medical treatment before being cleared for booking. Roden was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail for the warrant, with bail set at $200,000.

RANCHO CORDOVA—Following reports of gunfire on Saturday afternoon, May 16, one man is dead and the suspect is still at large.

On Saturday at approximately 2:45 pm, the Rancho Cordova Police Department received multiple reports of gunshots fired at the Cascades apartment complex within the 9800 block of Lincoln Village Drive in Rancho Cordova.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Albert Alexander, 19, had been shot at least once. He was transported to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead. Sacramento Sheriff’s homicide detectives also responded to the scene to take over the investigation, which continued into the evening.

Witnesses told police they saw a light colored sedan speeding away from the area directly after the shooting. Reports indicated that Alexander had been speaking with the suspect or suspects inside the vehicle before the shooting. Police do not yet know if the suspect knew the victim, and a confirmed description of the assailant is still unavailable.

“At this point, we need to get a little bit of time to do some work and see if he had a dispute with somebody,” said Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Lisa Bowman. “At this point we have no idea.”

Alexander’s girlfriend Desire Orey told CBS Sacramento that he was not affiliated with a gang, and she’s is having a difficult time believing he is dead. “He was a funny guy,” she said. “He liked to make jokes a lot.” Alexander worked at Taco Bell but had big dreams, she added. “He wanted to be an engineer.”

Records show that a man of the same name and approximate age was arrested by Sacramento Sheriff’s deputies on May 28 of last year on domestic violence charges, but it cannot be confirmed if it was the same Albert Alexander.

Detectives are asking anyone with information relating to this incident to please contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP.  Tip information may also be left anonymously at www.sacsheriff.com, by texting 274637 (CRIMES) and entering the keyword ‘SSD’, or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).

Broken Glass Alarm Leads to Eventual Burglary Bust

Ventura County – Five months ago, in the hours just after midnight early Sunday, January 11, City of Thousand Oaks Police Dispatch received notice of a burglary in progress, pursuant to what Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Dan Hawes described as “a glass break alarm” at a retail store location in nearby Newbury Park.

Responding officers discovered a pair of broken windows at the Hirano Optical & Optometry store, but no suspect was present. The attempted burglary had been thwarted, according to Hawes, “due to an additional wall on the other side” of the windows which prevented complete ingress into the business premises. With considerable additional evidence indicating a serious attempt to reach past the partition wall for the purposes of removing merchandise, the Thousand Oaks Police Investigative Bureau began the task of researching leads as to the possible identities of those responsible for the criminal activity.

A full five months later, detectives “were able to link Dennis Wladyka to the burglary,” and on May 11th detectives from the TOPD Special Enforcement Unit found their man in the public offices of the Los Angeles Department of Social Services. He was interviewed, and apparently the answers he gave to detectives’ questions weren’t the right ones; he was arrested on the spot and transported to Ventura County Jail where he was booked on a charge of burglary, as well as on two outstanding warrants, with his bail set at $100,000.

Records show that Wladyka had been arrested for burglary in 2007 while he lived in Inglewood. While on parole, he reportedly broke into El Segundo’s The Lakes Golf Course pro shop, and stole 116 boxes of new golf balls. He had tried to escape by bicycle, but was spotted by police riding down El Segundo Blvd., according to the Mercury News. He was charged with burglary, possessing burglar’s tools, stolen property, and for identity theft as well. The next year, in September of 2012, he was arrested once again in El Segundo, this time for stealing bicycles, according to the Daily Breeze. In June of 2013 he was arrested once again, this time in Los Angeles, for burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Robberies & Burglaries Plague Isla Vista

Santa Barbara – The current profile of UCSB in the media could use some polishing, but recent events in the adjacent residential community of Isla Vista—truly a “college town” if there ever was one—continue to tarnish the reputation of one of the nation’s leading research universities.

Tevis Johnston and Levi Roman

Tevis Johnston and Levi Roman

Evidence of that continues to arise with an unsolved armed robbery taking place at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 3rd. According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, the suspects in that case, reportedly wearing “dark hoodies and masks” forced their way into a student apartment on Seville Road armed with handguns, and stole personal electronic items before making a clean getaway.

Less than 24 hours later, SBSD deputies and UCSB Police officers responded to the same apartment complex pursuant to a report of a violent argument over a drug deal going bad. Upon arrival, deputies found “several subjects fleeing the area”, five of whom were summarily detained, with four of them determined to have been involved in an armed robbery attempt on the premises just minutes prior. Taken into custody were Brenden Lewis, a 21-year old Ventura resident, Christianna Horton, 25 of Ventura, Tevis Johnston, a 19-year old from Buellton, and 20-year old Levi Roman, also of Buellton. They were each booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on various charges of burglary, robbery, transportation of cocaine and alprazolam, and possession of an illegal knife.

The campus of UC Santa Barbara is located at the end of Seville Road, where several apartment buildings are located.

The campus of UC Santa Barbara is located at the end of Seville Road, where several apartment buildings are located.

Prior to this incident, many of the suspects had been in trouble with the law, according to available arrest records. Brenden Lewis had been arrested, while reporting a Santa Barbara residence, on February 18, and charged with possession of a narcotic controlled substance. Tevis Johnston was picked up by a Buellton Highway Patrol officer on April 8 and charged with driving on a suspended license, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and driving in that condition.

Levi Johnston was arrested in May of last year for public intoxication under the influence of a controlled substance. To make matters worse, he failed to show for his court date, resulting in a warrant, which he was arrested pursuant to on April 15. His response to that arrest earned him an additional resisting arrest charge at that time.

On the afternoon of that same day, another armed robbery took place on the public sidewalk just steps away from the UCSB campus, wherein a male student was “reportedly robbed by four or five black male adults armed with a handgun.” The suspects in that case, Hoover indicated, remain at large.

Then, less than 24 hours after that, a residential burglary report brought SBSD deputies to a student-occupied apartment complex, where investigation promptly led to the arrest of 28-year old Savannah Arias, who claimed to have been the victim of the aforementioned 4:30 a.m. May 3rd armed robbery at the hands of those wearing “hoodies and masks.” She had been arrested before as well, on April 11 for driving under the influence of drugs.

An observant witness played a key role in the arrest of two suspected car burglars. On Sunday, May 17th, a man heard a car alarm go off in the 300 block of Sunrise Boulevard in Roseville, near where he was parked. The alarm continued to go off, so the witness drove around the lot to see what was happening. The witness realized the alarm was coming from an SUV which had its doors opened. One man was leaning into the car and one man appeared to be the lookout.

The suspects got into their car and left when they realized they were spotted. The witness took a picture of the car and then called the Roseville Police. The witness was able to give the dispatcher details, such as the license plate number, vehicle description and the direction the suspects were headed. The first officer who arrived at the scene was also able to forward the photo the witness took to other officers.

Roseville Police officers located the suspects’ car on Westbound Interstate 80 and stopped it near the Riverside exchange. Inside the car, officers found stolen property taken from the SUV, including a cell phone, purse, jewelry and a car stereo.

Police arrested Javier Anthony Garcia, 27, and Dominic Terry Eales, 21, both of North Highlands, on several charges including conspiracy, possession of stolen property and suspicion of burglary. Eales was also charged with suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale.

The stolen property was returned to the owner of the SUV, which may not have happened without the help of the witness. The Roseville Police credit the alert witness with providing a description and photo of the car to the police. They also praise the witness for using good judgement and getting the police involved immediately and not confronting the suspects himself.

The Placer County District Attorney’s Office has formally filed charges against a Rocklin man in the shooting death of his father. Robert Carlo Yandolino, 25, of Rocklin was charged with one count of premeditated murder in the May 14th 2015, shooting, which occurred in Newcastle.

Yandolino was also charged with attempted murder in an attack on a second person during the incident, which took place on the Monte Vista Olive Oil ranch. The second victim, who is reportedly a farmhand at the location, was treated at a local hospital and survived the attack.

Murder charges also include an allegation of special circumstance “lying in wait”, which makes the suspect eligible for the death penalty. The decision to seek the death penalty will be made in the future. Yandolino was scheduled to be arraigned on May 18th at Placer County Superior Court.

The victim was identified as Carlo Alexander Yandolino, 58 of Newcastle. He had worked for the past four years on reviving an olive oil business at his Newcastle property. A new olive oil tasting room, located at 455 Main Street in Newcastle, had opened on May 12, and they had planned a grand opening celebration on Sunday, May 17. However, a message posted by his wife on the Monte Vista Ranch Olive Oil Facebook page reads “Due to the tragic death of my beloved husband, Carlo Yandolino, Owner and Producer of Monte Vista Ranch Olive Oil, our Tasting Bar will not open until further notice. Please remember Carlo in your thoughts and prayers. Rebecca”

The suspect was arrested by Placer County Sheriff’s detectives in Rocklin on the same day as the shooting. He had retreated to his apartment across from Whitney High School, resulting in a school lock-down until he was taken into custody at 3 pm. Special Enforcement Teams from the Roseville and Rocklin police department also assisted with the investigation and the arrest.

Robert Yandolino had reportedly moved to the area from Orange County to be closer to a girlfriend and his father, according to a story in the Sacramento Bee. They quoted his mother, Teresa Popovich (who was divorced from Carlo Yandolino) as saying that Robert had spoken to her from jail, saying “I don’t know why I am here. I don’t know what happened.” What motivated the shooting will be under investigation, but Robert Yandolino’s potentially violent tendencies may have been revealed by his arrest, while living in Westminster in Orange County on July 28, 2013, for making threats of violence. Further details of that incident were not available.

EL CENTRO – The effort to prevent illegal drugs from being smuggled across the border and into our country never ends.

This week, a recent success story involves U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Calexico station and resulted in the confiscation of over 47 pounds of marijuana. Near the junction of Highway 98 and Interstate 8, officers noticed two men climb the boundary fence and swim across the canal.

Next, one of the men ran to a waiting car that was stopped on Interstate 8. He placed his bundle in the car and it took off, temporarily. Before long the car, its 20-year-old female driver, 27-year-old male occupant and backseat bundle were all stopped by authorities.

The two fence climbers were also arrested before they could return home to Mexico.  In addition, Border patrol agents also found another bundle floating in the canal. The street value of the purloined drugs exceeds $28,000.

Broken brake light on a stolen car leads to arrest of wanted felon

Nirut Honey Gowing seems to have a habit of stealing cars. He’s been arrested for it in the past, and apparently did so again last Thursday in the Santa Rosa area. But he failed to check it out completely.

The red 1990 Acura Legend he was driving had a malfunctioning rear brake light. As he drove through central Santa Rosa at 5:30 in the afternoon on Saturday, on Railroad Street passing the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel, a police officer noticed the broken brake light and followed the car, initiating a traffic stop in the Railroad Square Historic District, near Depot Park.

Nirut Honey Gowing and an image of Marijuana in his hand, both photos from his Facebook page.

Gowing, driving the stolen car, must have quickly realized his predicament. Not only was the car stolen, but he had an outstanding Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) felony warrant out on him, and he was carrying a concealed weapon, in the category of “dirk or dagger”. He knew the law on that, as he had been arrested for carrying such a weapon in March of 2013, along with a set of burglar’s tools. He was also charged then with violating his parole, stemming from arrests in 2007 and 2008 for stealing cars. His November 2008 arrest also included charges of forgery, possessing stolen property, and burglary tools.

So feeling the heat, Gowing tried to make a run for it.  According to Santa Rosa Police, he hung a quick left at 5th Street, circled back through the parking lot between the Depot Park and historic train station (now a visitor’s center) and back on to 4th Street. But he lost control, running into the fire hydrant and stop sign at the corner, right in front of Chevy’s restaurant, along with a few pedestrian safety barriers. All that didn’t stop him, however, and he headed down 4th Street towards Davis Street. The officer pursuing him observed Gowing open the driver’s door as if to jump from the moving vehicle, which led to his completely losing control and running into more pedestrian safety barriers at 4th and Davis, nearly missing the Charlie Brown statue on the corner.

Protected by a group of barriers, Charlie Brown the Conductor was not harmed in the crash.

Protected by a group of barriers, Charlie Brown the Conductor was not harmed in the crash.

Still not ready to give up, Gowing jumped from the car and made a run for it on foot. By then, more officers had responded to the scene, and setting up a perimeter, they were able to apprehend him at the corner of Wilson and 3rd, at the opposite corner of the block, and near where he was first observed.

Gowing was detained, and the officers located the dagger he was carrying in his pants pocket. Identifying him, they discovered the outstanding warrant, and the status of the stolen, and now damaged Acura. He was arrested and charged with reckless evading, vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, burglar’s tools, and a concealed dirk or dagger, with an enhancement for prior vehicle theft.

Gowing admitted to having been in a gang when he lived in Long Beach, California, and stated that he was now living with family in Petaluma. His history of arrests shows he has also spent time living in Oakland, where he was twice charged with grand theft-auto.

Police Are Looking For Three Hispanic Adults

WATSONVILLE—The Watsonville Police Department believe that the three incidents that occurred Sunday night might be related. Police are looking for three Hispanic male adults who they say robbed a fruit vendor by gunpoint.

The first Incident occurred at ten minutes after five in the evening when two Hispanic men approached the victim and attempted to buy some fruit that he was selling on Rodriguez Street, near Radcliff Elementary School. A third man came up to him wielding a silver and black semi-automatic handgun and pointed it to his chest. He demanded that the victim hand over all his money. The victim, fearing for his life, emptied his pocket and gave the suspect about $150.00. The suspects then fled the area on foot, all in different directions.

The second incident occurred about 7:48 Sunday evening, when Watsonville Police were dispatched to Silverleaf Drive on a report of an attempted carjacking. The victim reported that she approached by a Hispanic male adult who demanded her vehicle. He was wielding a large caliber firearm. The victim, fearing for her life begged the suspect not to harm her. He reportedly became very nervous and left the area on foot, leaving the victim unharmed and no property was taken.

About ten minutes later Watsonville police were dispatched to Herman Avenue, which is a few blocks away from Silverleaf Drive, on a report of a vehicle theft. The description of the suspect matched that of the man in the attempted carjacking from ten minutes earlier. The driver of the stolen car reportedly hit a parked car while fleeing.

An armed robber targeted this Little Caesar's Pizza on Freedom Blvd.

The third incident then occurred at the Little Caesar’s Pizza on Freedom Boulevard. A male suspect entered the store and approached the employees behind the counter and produced a black semi-automatic handgun. He demanded money from the registers. The suspect also demanded the money from the safe, but before he could get his hands on it one of the employees activated the alarm, and that sound caused the suspect to flee the scene.

Then at about 10:18 pm, Watsonville Police responded to the area of California Street and Hill Avenue for a report of a hit and run involving the same stolen car from Herman Avenue. After an extensive search Watsonville Police located the suspect in the area of Jasmine Lane and Camellia Court. The suspect ignored police commands to stop the vehicle and sped away. Officers pursued him, and as the suspect drove off, he collided with several parked cars and narrowly missed hitting a Watsonville Police Officer.

Officers continued the pursuit onto Freedom Boulevard. The suspect continued to drive erratically, at one point hitting a taxi, until he came across a stubborn trash container behind a grocery store that ended the pursuit. The 17-year-old suspect was positively identified by both victims and arrested. Police are investigating possible connections the juvenile may have had with the Little Caesar’s robbery and fruit vendor hold-up.

Adam Michael Kendall has been in trouble in both California and New Jersey, and is now sitting with attempted murder charges in the Mendocino County Jail.

Kendall tracked his victim to a house on Yuki Avenue in Covelo.

Kendall tracked his victim to a house on Yuki Avenue in Covelo.

Kendall is known as a drug dealer, and went to a house on Yuki Avenue in Covelo, a small, rural town in northeast Mendocino County, and home to the Round Valley Indian Tribes. He was looking for a 40-year-old man who owed him money, most likely from a past drug transaction. The man he sought, however, was not a resident of Covelo, but had come from Vallejo, which is also where Kendall has lived when on the west coast. His current residence of record is in Harrison, New Jersey. It appears that he traveled from New Jersey the same day to seek out this man.

According to the Mendocino Sheriff’s Office, Kendall arrived in a white Chevrolet pickup truck, and located the man he sought. Perhaps not satisfied with the man’s response when asked for the money he was owed, Kendall attacked with a hammer, striking the man in the head, leaving a four inch laceration, among other injuries.

The Sheriff’s office was contacted, and while deputies were on the way, a Round Valley Tribal Police officer arrived on the scene and was able to stop Kendall from further attacks on his victim. He ran from the officer, and then got into his truck and fled the area. The officer lost sight of him as he drove away.

Kendall was found in a trailer off of Refuse Road.

Kendall was found in a trailer off of Refuse Road.

As deputies arrived on the scene, tribal police received a call that Kendall was about a mile and a half away, in a travel trailer located on Refuse Road, just to the north. Deputies, along with one of their K9 units and the Tribal Police officer, found Kendall in the trailer as described. He surrendered without further resistance, and was arrested for attempted murder.

In April of last year, while residing in Vallejo, Kendall was arrested by Ukiah area California Highway Patrol officers, and booked in Mendocino County for possession and sales of marijuana or hashish, along with driving without a license. And just a few months prior to that incident, in January 2014 and while living in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was arrested for striking another car while driving under the influence. When police arrested him, he kicked, punched and spit on the three officers, according to a story in The Jersey Journal. When he appeared in court on multiple charges, he reportedly said “I have no idea, I just woke up” and “I don’t know if I hit cops, I don’t know nothing.”

Kendall’s victim in this latest incident was taken via air ambulance to an outside county medical facility for treatment of serious injuries, including a broken wrist, fractured left orbital eye socket. and several lacerations. He is expected to survive.

For his efforts in returning to California, Kendall was booked into the Mendocino County Jail, is being held on $250,000 bail, and is being charged with a probation violation as well as attempted murder.

The Paso Robles Police arrested a man after he allegedly tried to stab some locals on Monday.

According to PRPD, they received a call around 5:20 p.m. regarding a male suspect who had attempted to stab another person near an apartment building in the area of the 1200 block of Corral Creek. Witnesses told police the suspect was running away from the area towards Creston Road.

One of the victims, an adult male, told police the suspect had challenged him to fight, even though there was not any provocation. The victim told police he did not fight the suspect and started to to leave the area to avoid a confrontation. Then two of his brothers, one adult and one juvenile, met up with him and as they walked away from the area. However, the suspect caught up with them and began to chase them with a knife.

The victim said the suspect yelled he was going to stab him and his brothers, and swung the knife at them. Although all the brothers fled, one of the two adults suffered a minor cut to his elbow. The suspect then fled on foot.

When officers arrived in the area, they were able to locate a subject matching the suspect’s description near the intersection of Creston and Cedarwood.

They attempted to detain the man, who fled into the public restrooms at Sherwood Park. Officers found him and ordered the suspect out of the restroom, and he complied. He was detained without further incident.

Police found a folding knife on the man, and a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine in the area where he had been hiding. The adult male victim positively identified the suspect.

The suspect, Rafael Aguilar Anguiano, 20 of Paso Robles, was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor possession of narcotics paraphernalia. Anguiano was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Police say the incident is still under investigation and does not appear to be gang-related.

Records show the suspect had been arrested in January of 2014 for evading Paso Robles police when they tried to pull him over in a traffic stop, and for 3 outstanding warrants. He fled in his pickup truck before stopping and running away on foot, and was eventually caught and arrested. In October of 2013 he had been charged with loitering or prowling on private property, giving false identification, and probation violations. Those two arrests were followed in October 2014 by a charge of possessing drug paraphernalia and for outstanding warrants.

According to Citrus Heights Police, five suspects were arrested after a home invasion robbery on May 19th in Citrus Heights. The incident occurred early in the early morning at about 2 am. A call was made to Citrus Heights Police from a resident on the 13000 block of Fair Oaks Boulevard reporting possible gunshots.

The resident saw several young men on his neighbor’s property yelling at someone and instructing them to get on the ground. The caller believed the suspects were associated with a nearby silver colored sedan.

The incident happened at a home on Fair Oaks Blvd. in Citrus Heights.

The incident happened at a home on Fair Oaks Blvd. in Citrus Heights.

Officers arrived on the scene shortly after being dispatched. As they arrived, they reported seeing the male suspects running from the home and spotted the silver sedan. The subjects all fled into the car and took off at a high rate of speed. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects continued to try to get away. A pursuit ensued. The suspects were seen throwing things from the car and continued to try to evade police.

The officers were able to bring the pursuit to an end when they blocked the suspect’s car in a parking lot. Three suspects who remained in the vehicle were detained. Two additional suspects fled on foot. One of them was quickly apprehended with the help of a Citrus Heights Police K-9 Unit.

The remaining suspect starting knocking on doors in the area, claiming to have been in an accident and needing to use the phone. Residents refused the young man entry, and called the Sacramento Sheriff’s office reporting the suspect’s whereabouts. A perimeter was established, and with the assistance of the Folsom PD, Roseville PD, California Highway Patrol and The Sacramento Sheriff’s Office, the remaining suspect was apprehended.

Although gunshots were first reported, it does not appear any shots were actually fired. After an initial investigation, officers located a five-gallon bucket of marijuana and a pellet handgun along the pursuit route. It also appears the victim and suspects knew each other, and that they may have stolen the bucket of marijuana from him.

The suspects arrested include John Sherrard, 18, of Orangevale, Tevin Bolten, 22, of Sacramento and Darius Pope, 19, of Fair Oaks. The three suspects were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Two additional 17-year old suspects were booked at Sacramento Juvenile Hall. Because of their age, their names have not been released.

The suspects were booked on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, robbery, felony evading of officers, vandalism and conspiracy. The investigation is ongoing, but there do not appear to be any other suspects involved. The victim reportedly suffered minor injuries and did not want medical treatment.

Car Thief Tried to Burglarize Victim’s Home, Gets Caught

RANCHO CUCAMONGA – A man, whose stolen vehicle was taken in Los Angeles on Monday, found the car thief trying to burglarize his home in San Bernardino County one day later.

In the process, he recovered his stolen car and, along with his son, chased down the female suspect, Lattice Mona Perkins, 28. It was a surprising twist to Monday’s car theft, when the victim, who resides on the 12000 block of Quail Court, was pulling into his driveway in another car. As he pulled up to his garage, police reports stated, the door started to open. His stolen car was inside.

Ms. Perkins, who was unknown to the victim, was attempting to back out of the garage. The victim blocked the stolen car with his second car. Perkins, who likely found the victim’s home by use of the GPS system inside the vehicle, jumped out of the car and ran.

The victim and his son chased Perkins, capturing and detaining her until law enforcement officers arrived to take her into custody. She was arrested on charges of auto theft, burglary, and possession of stolen property, and booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

Detectives believe Perkins used credit cards and the identities of several other victims in the greater San Bernardino and Los Angeles areas. Detectives believe Perkins may have committed similar crimes and additional victims may recognize her photograph.

According to jail records, Perkins is being held on $50,000 bail. When deputies searched the stolen car, they discovered personal items that belonged to Perkins along with evidence that she was burglarizing the house, including a bank card belonging to the victim.

They also found evidence that Perkins was planning to commit fraud or identity theft crimes against victims in both the Los Angeles and San Bernardino County area, according to law enforcement officials. Investigators believe Perkins likely committed other similar crimes.

This isn’t Perkins’ first run-in with the law.  On November 13, 2013 and December 31, 2014, she was arrested for being a “fugitive from justice.”  In addition, 2 weeks ago she was arrested for failure to appear in court.

BAKERSFIELD — A Bakersfield man was shot by police Sunday evening after he tried to run over two officers with his car.

Gilbert Fajardo, a 20-year-old Bakersfield resident, is in stable condition at Kern Medical Center.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the shooting occurred at around 7 p.m. on May 17, when officer Lindy DeGeare and officer Juan Orozco responded to the 600 block of Planz Road in southeast Bakersfield to check the welfare of a subject inside of a vehicle.

“When officers arrived, they located the vehicle occupied by a sole male driver who was asleep or passed out,” BPD Public Relations Officer Joe Grubbs said. “Officers woke the driver, who after being asked to exit the vehicle, started the vehicle, and rapidly accelerated nearly running over officer Orozco, who was positioned on the passenger side of the vehicle.”

officer-involved-shooting_generic

At that time, officer DeGeare, believing her partner had been or was being run over, fired her weapon several times at Fajardo, striking him.

Fajardo lost control of his vehicle, colliding with a parked van.

Medical aid arrived on the scene and Fajardo was transported to a local hospital.

Suspect Emailed Bomb Threat to a High School

North Monterey County—the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office announced today that they have made an arrest in a “swatting” case that took place in February this year. They have arrested a 17-year-old juvenile from Surprise, Arizona.

Swatting has become the term for anonymously filing a false and serious report with law enforcement, in hopes of provoking a significant response from police, sheriff’s departments, and especially SWAT teams. It became something of a fad among internet online game players, who may witness the raid of a rival player over a live streaming video feed.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office experienced their first swatting call from the 17-year-old suspect. He called the Monterey County Dispatch Center at nearly midnight and reported a home invasion with a victim shot. About ten units responded, along with fire and medical personnel who staged nearby. They found only a teenage girl at the home, but no emergency.

The 17-year-old girl identified the suspect as another juvenile she had met over the internet. She was able to identify his voice, which was recorded when he called into the dispatch center.  She told authorities that she had met the suspect online and developed a “friendship” with him.

The next day, February 5, Authorities from North Monterey County High School received a bomb threat through email. The email claimed to be from the girl who was swatted, and also claimed she was a member of ISIS. The message included a threat that “she” was going to kill the kids at the school if $15,000.00 was not left at the front gate of the school. The threat included a person being on school grounds with assault weapons and bombs.

As a result of the email, approximately 1100 students and staff evacuated the school, and every available unit responded to assist with the evacuation. Some Deputies searched the school grounds for a suspect, weapons and bombs. These types of messages continued over several days, causing fear in the community. Some students did not return to school for several weeks.

The female victim in the first call, as well as her family and other friends, received a number of suspicious calls over the next few weeks. A forensic examination of the victim’s computer help track the suspect to the state of Arizona.

With the assistance of Surprise Police Department, along with the Secret Service, a search warrant was served at the residence on Thursday, May 14. The search produced numerous items of evidence. The suspect was interviewed, and police found that this was not his first time committing crimes of this type. He was arrested and will be prosecuted for the crime.
